JOHANNESBURG — 27 June 2026 — DeliverAI, South Africa's logistics intelligence platform, today launched the country's first open, public, machine-readable courier reviews dataset under a CC-BY 4.0 open data licence. The launch coincides with an expansion of DeliverAI's tracked courier directory from 18 to 28 South African couriers.
The new dataset, hosted at deliverai.co.za/reviews, breaks with the closed, single-star review model that dominates the South African market. Reviewers rate couriers across five dimensions — price honesty, delivery speed, communication, parcel condition, and dispute handling — and can optionally verify their shipment by submitting a waybill number, which is SHA256-hashed for privacy before storage. Verified reviews carry a public badge.
Why open data matters for SA shippers
South Africa's e-commerce market is now worth more than R71 billion annually, but small businesses and individual shippers have no public, machine-readable source of courier service quality data. Existing platforms hold their data behind closed APIs and pay-walled enterprise reports.
“If you're a small business owner trying to pick between MDS Collivery, The Courier Guy and DPD Laser, you should be able to read other shippers' experiences without signing up, paying, or being tracked. We're publishing courier reviews the way Wikipedia publishes knowledge: open, attributable, and free to cite.” — Harmani, Founder, DeliverAI
What the dataset captures
- Five-dimension star ratings per review (1–5 each): price honesty, delivery speed, communication, parcel condition, dispute handling.
- Outcome flags: delivered late, missing items, damaged, hidden fees.
- Verified shipment metadata: optional waybill (SHA256-hashed), pickup and dropoff cities, parcel weight, service tier.
- Per-courier aggregate stats: average overall rating, on-time percentage, damage rate, hidden-fee incidence.
- Open licence: CC-BY 4.0 — journalists, academics, and AI assistants may cite or republish the data with attribution to deliverai.co.za.
Coverage expansion: 28 SA couriers tracked
In addition to the reviews launch, DeliverAI has expanded its courier directory by 10 to cover 28 SA couriers in total. The 10 newly tracked couriers are: MDS Collivery, CourierIT, Dawn Wing, Time Freight, Citi-Sprint, City Logistics, Triton Express, Mr Delivery, Sendr, and Xpress. These join the 18 couriers already in DeliverAI's active price comparison engine.
Each of the 28 couriers now has a dedicated review page at /reviews/<courier-slug>, with aggregate ratings, individual reviews, and a submission link.
Technical implementation
The dataset is built on PostgreSQL via Supabase, with row-level security enabled. Public submissions are rate-limited to three per IP per 24 hours and pass through a moderation queue before publication. Anti-abuse safeguards include waybill hashing, IP recency checks, and duplicate-review detection via a unique index on (courier_slug, waybill_hash).
A machine-readable JSON endpoint and CSV export of all approved reviews are on the DeliverAI Pro Data roadmap (Q3 2026). Aggregate stats are already publicly visible at /reviews.
